  • What is Microblading?
To add a new question go to app settings and press "Manage Questions" button.Microblading, also known as micropigmentation, is a procedure categorized under permanent makeup. The procedure is done with a disposable hand tool made up of ultrafine needles in the form of a blade. Each hairstroke is gently etched into the first two layers of the skin, (the epidermis, and the dermis) giving an incredibly natural & realistic look. It is more superficial than traditional tattooing because the pigment isn’t placed as deep into the skin, therefore the pigment naturally sheds little by little as the epidermis sheds.
  • What is the difference between Permanent Makeup and Tattooing?
What is the difference between Permanent Makeup and Tattooing? The purpose of permanent makeup is to enhance the natural features of a client and/or correct small imperfections such as asymmetric proportions, it is meant to be a natural looking beauty enhancement, that is why it looks softer and more subtle. Body tattoos use ink, permanent makeup involves pigments designed to gently fade over time. Fading is desired as it allows the artist to make changes to color and shape over the years as client’s natural coloration and facial changes occur. Again, permanent makeup is more superficial. The pigment is deposited into only the second layer of skin, otherwise known as the dermis, while traditional tattooing is implanted much deeper.
  • Is the procedure painful?
A highly-effective, topical anesthetic is used for numbing before & during your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entirety of the procedure. Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure, as well as increase the chance of bleeding which in turn affects the color retention of pigment in the skin. If you were diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, be aware that this may affect your sensitivity tolerance to the procedure. PLEASE NOTE: If you've ever had problems numbing in the past (at the dentist etc.) please inform us prior to your appointment. If you are a frequent smoker, the topical anesthetics used during the treatment may not last as long.
  • Is the procedure safe?
It is absolutely safe. I follow the highest hygiene and safety standards, using single-use disposable needles and supplies. This means that each set-up for every client is discarded safely afterwards. Procedural stations are thoroughly disinfected before and after each procedure during the day.
  • How long does each procedure take?
You should plan on 2, to 2.5 hours in the suite. Please make sure you have enough time to complete a proper permanent makeup procedure. This time includes paper work, proper numbing, mapping, procedure, aftercare instructions and pictures. None of these activities should be rushed. Follow up procedures usually do not require the same amount of time.
  • Are my brows going to have to be shaved off?
Absolutely NOT. In fact, the more brow hair you have, the more realistic it looks! If you have natural brow hairs, I will work with what you have, subtly integrating my work to suit your natural brow style. Please do not alter your brows in any way prior to your procedure as I will clean up the area during the service.
  • How does the artist determine the shape of your brows?
I will take six measurements on your brow bone using a specialized measurement method called the “String Method”, as well as using a digital ruler to ensure they are the same measurements on both sides. Once I feel the shape is the correct proportion for your face, I will check with you (alterations can be done to change the shape) so we can both approve the shape to begin the service!
  • Are there different colors?
Yes, I have a range of colors from blondes to brunette, red heads and grays. I have over 40 shades. We will choose a tone to suit your natural hair as well as the overtone and undertone of your skin.
  • Are the pigments safe?
My pigments used for permanent makeup are FDA approved and have been strictly tested for safe use. A patch test may be performed 24hrs before the procedure to determine if you have an allergic reaction which is considered rare. The pigments used in permanent makeup come in a variety of colors and are 100% Vegan and cruelty free.
  • How long will it take to heal?
Everyone is different, but as a general rule, the surface skin usually heals between 5-7 days after the treatment, and 10-14 days below the surface. Many people will return to work the same day after a treatment.
  • How long will it last?
This varies from person to person because skin type, diet, genetics and environmental factors can all contribute to how long the pigments will be retained. As a guide, it could be anything between one to three years before a new treatment is required, although refresher color boosts are recommended for maintenance during this time. Once the color starts to fade you will know that you are ready for your refresher color boost, or “Annual Touchup”. It is important to remember that permanent make-up is a “low”, not a “no” maintenance treatment.
  • What if I’ve already had microblading done by a different artist?!
A picture of the client’s current brows will need to be sent to me first to determine if more microblading or permanent makeup can be done. A face to face consultation is a MUST. Not all previous microblading work can be covered or corrected. You may need removal first. Touch up pricing does not apply to those who have had work done by other artists. You must have an initial appointment done with me to become an established client and receive touch up pricing.
  • What is the difference between Microblading, Powder brow, and Blade & Shade?"
Microblading is done with a disposable hand-held tool, which consists of tiny needles that make up a blade. It creates tiny lines (hairstrokes) that mimic hair into the skin. Powderbrow is done with a small tattoo machine that creates a soft wash on the skin that resembles applying shadow or makeup to the brows. No strokes are created - it is more of a soft powdery makeup look on the skin. Blade & Shade is a combination of Microblading and Powderbrow: The hairstrokes are applied first throughout the brows, followed by shading behind the hairstrokes, creating a more filled-in, solid brow under the feathery look of the hairstrokes. The shading can be done manually with a hand tool for a lighter, softer look, or with the tattoo machine creating a darker more bold look, depending on how light or heavy you would like the shading.
  • What is the cost of the brow tattoo?
The procedure price varies from artist to artist. The current pricing for eyebrows by Brows By Katy is as follows: BOOK NOW LINK *If you are my first time client, your first 6-8 week touchup is free. Additional minor touchups after that are $100-$150 depending on how much work is needed. *Failure complete your free touchup during the 6-8 week time frame that is recommended, as agreed upon, will result in an additional charge of $100-$150 (the cost of an Additional Touchup). The reason for this is because going longer than the recommended time frame allows the initial strokes to lighten even more, creating patchiness and more work overall. This touchup is your “perfecting session” and this is really where the magic happens and sets up the brows for longevity. Remember, this is a two-step process, your brows are not complete until after you’ve received your touchup! NOTE: These prices are subject to change at any time. Unless you already have your appointment booked, then your price will be locked in. I accept cash, cards, or payment apps such as Venmo, PayPal, CashApp or Zelle.
  • What is the process like?
-All new or first time permanent makeup procedures require a consultation with me prior to booking your appointment. This gives us an opportunity for us to meet in person and so that I can see your brows up close and check your skin to see if you are a good candidate for permanent makeup. It also allows me to explain the procedure thoroughly, discuss your options, and also answer any questions that you may have before booking. -Before the appointment begins, I will cleanse/sterilize your brows thoroughly, and take “before” photos. -Next, I will exfoliate the skin on your brows and apply the topical numbing cream. -Once numbed, I then map out the eyebrow shape according to your facial symmetry and your facial features using measuring tools and string. Brows are measured perfectly to compliment your unique face shape and size. -I will then check with you to ensure you are happy with the shape, and make any adjustments that are desired (higher arch, lower tail, thicker or thinner etc.) -Next, I will provide color samples of pigment rubbed onto the forehead skin and explain the difference between the tones of the pigment and the skin tones to get the closest match to your natural brow hair color. We will choose a color together. -The procedure then begins and the initial strokes are placed. -Pigment is worked into each stroke to define the brow. -When your shape is completed, a pigment mask is left to absorb into the skin. This is also when we can apply secondary numbing if needed. -This is when we may or may not add shading, depending on which technique is chosen. -Once that's finished, I cleanse the area thoroughly, take “after” photos, and apply a medical barrier ointment that will help condition the skin and protect the brows, go over aftercare, and you’ll receive your Aftercare kit. It is recommended to book your touchup before leaving your session to ensure you can get in within the recommended time frame.
  • What should I avoid before my treatment?
Strictly no coffee/ alcohol/ aspirins or any other form of pain killers 48 hours before your appointment. Please also inform us if you are taking any supplements, for example fish oil capsules, as these will affect how your treatment will heal. If you currently take daily vitamins, it is strongly suggested you stop taking them 1 week before your procedure, as they can make you bleed more. No sunlight or tanning beds for at least 1 week prior to treatment. If your skin is burned we will not be able to perform the service.
  • Are there any pre-existing conditions that interfere with consideration for a permanent make-up treatment?
•Pregnancy • Breastfeeding (treatment is possible, though we cannot guarantee proper pigment retention or healed results due to pregnancy hormones, as they may alter the way the pigment heals) • Diabetic. • Serious diseases such as cancer, epilepsy, autoimmune disorders (doctor's note is required) • Circulatory disorders (doctor's note is required) • Any bleeding disorders (doctor's note is required) • Any blood thinning medication • Currently on Accutane or other strong retinoids (must wait until 6 months after treatment ends) • If any skin disease symptoms or irritation is on the area, or if you are prone to Keloids • If you've recently had Botox or Disport treatment (must wait 2 weeks to 2 months depending on the area) • Old permanent makeup (further consult required) • You have a broken capillary in the eyebrow area • If you have a sunburn. • After waxing (must wait 3 days) After chemical peels (must wait three weeks)
  • What if I don’t like it?
As with all cosmetic procedures, you should do your research first to fully understand the procedure and research the artist before making a decision. I, as an artist, will do my utmost to shape and style the eyebrows to the clients’ satisfaction prior to and during the procedure. Every effort will be made to achieve an even appearance, but please realize our faces are never perfectly symmetrical. Expecting an absolutely perfect result is unrealistic. Eyebrows are “sisters” not “twins.”
  • Is permanent makeup a smart investment?
The permanent makeup costs as much as you would spend for hairstyling, facial sessions, nail care, etc. Permanent makeup will last for a long time until some “refresh” might be required, therefore, it will not cost much compared to regular expenses for keeping your everyday look. If still interested please send an email containing a photo of your brows with no makeup on. Also attach your full name, phone number, if you were referred by anyone, and days and times you are normally available to come in and receive the procedure. Once all the above information is received, I will cross check the schedule and get back to you as soon as possible with a few dates and times I have available based on the information you have provided for me. If you have any other questions please feel free to reach out and let me know at any time! Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you! Katy Gordon 904-710-9704 Katygordonpmu@gmail.com
